russia vs ukraine

> NATO is doing wrong against Russia, you have to admit that. Putin wants to bring back the USSR because Nato is becoming too powerful
NATO hasn't been conquering countries - countries are joining NATO because they're afraid of Russian expansionism - and rightly so.

Those countries flocked to NATO because they lived under the iron curtain for 40 years and do not want to go back to that hell
Putin thinks he's playing Civilization, but people's lives are at stake. Innocent folks who, if they don't die, will have their homes and businesses ruined. Does he really think that he can keep control of this country? Best case for him is that if he annexes it, he can subdue it for 10 years until he dies, and then it will break away again, when a weaker leader comes to power in Russia. Worst case is that Ukraine fights back and there will be 100,000s of deaths on both sides. If the 2nd case plays out, he's done. He will be out of power quickly. Afghanistan caused the collapse of the Soviet Union. Chechnya almost cost Yeltsin his presidency.

As a Russian, I can tell you that at least in my circle, this war is highly unpopular. Several of my friends in Moscow went to protest it at the risk of being arrested and thrown in jail.

Why there is a fight between Ukraine and Russia?

The conflict had included the Russian annexation of Crimea (2014), the Donbas War (2014–present), naval incidents, cyberwarfare, and political tensions. After Russian military buildups near Ukraine's borders in 2021, Russia launched a general invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022.
