When the fear of getting old is in our hearts. It's like an alarm clock, saying it's time for conversion. The future plans may seem as if they have fallen into a zeitnot situation. This type of fear has a positive purpose. It forges us to realize how time is precious like thanksgiving festivals. Happy holidays everyone.

ok this a bit of nitpicking but this is such an interesting topic and I have actually written some stuff about it somewhere, somewhen :) so here is a small resume:
the purpose of life is an everlasting philosophical inquiry and there have been many tries for a defenitive answer.
Among the prevalent theories:
a)loving and sharing
b)improvement of one's self/ improvement of society
c)do everything that brings you pleasure/happiness
d)nothing aka life is purposeless and more like a random joke
e)nothing specific the purpose of one's life is determined by the one living it
and many more...
now actually each theory has its own problems and the theory that #22 mentioned is one of the most ancient and respectable ones but here is an argument that this theory has problems dealing with
Let us say that eating chocolate makes you happier than eating fruits. If you only value the pleasure/happiness and you start eating tons of candy everyday, you might end up being 300kg one day and probably sad about it. So despite actually doing the thing that brings you the most happiness every day you might become sad in the long run.
Of course this not the end of the story, but I thought it might be worth mentioning although now that I did, to be honest, I dont know why :)

It is the same with drinking hard liquor and gambling. If these are the ways of one's happiness then just do it. Some people just want to live fast and die young.
