Why did this happen?

Umm yeah if you use an engine on chess.com and you play the game, lichess definitely does not detect that as cheating... lichess only detects cheating if you use lichess's engine ONLY. There must be a patch for that but if there is a patch, it would intrude upon peoples' privacy (looking at which websites they go other than lichess during a chess game) or would simply not work for correspondence games.

Oh come on he has clearly stated why he used it. His intent was not cheating and it's clear. It seems like an ignorant mistake. Dont understand why people are going over the same points again and again

Hang on...an international master uses an engine in a lichess game and when detected he uses the excuse that he was playing in an OTB tourny at the same time and needed the engine to find his best next move,at the expense of his honest lichess opponent.When that lame excuse is thrown out the window,he says it's ok to cheat because it was a correspondence game.When that lame excuse follows the other one out the window,he says it's all ok,because he's an international master.
I suggest it was a fishing trip to check the defences.

I didn't say any of this even once lol. But keep saying the same thing if it makes you feel very intelligent and good. I never said it was ok to cheat, I am saying that this isn't cheating. This was my normal preparations. And I haven't once said that it's OK because I'm an International Master, I haven't even mentioned my title once yet lol.

None of those were excuses, I was just explaining my case.

You did,in fact attempt to say it's ok for you to use an engine here because you were playing in an OTB tourny and you needed the engine to find the best move in your lichess game so you could apply that to the OTB game.I do not resile from my suggestion that it may have been an attempt to test the limits of lichess cheat detection.

No but I didn't mention my IM title in this thread, so why are you bringing that up? It has got nothing to do with this. I said that I was (and still am) playing in an OTB tourney, and needed the engine to find the best move to apply it to the OTB game. But yes, I was reminded about checking the line after it was played in the game.

Anyways I literally have a game in two hours so I'll check this thread later :)

You have mentioned your IM title to the administration,so it appears as part of your nic,so please desist from treating me like some kind of fool. You admitted to cheating,but tried to justify it by saying you needed an engine to work out your next move in an OTB tourny.According to you it is ok to cheat here,because you can't work out your next move in an entirely unrelated format.Then apply that move in the OTB.The move the engine gave you.

so what if he used a chess book to prepare instead, would that have been allowed? or one can't read chess books while having corrispondence games on?
don't think there is an easy solution to the problem
just always play corrispondence unrated is probably the best

A chess book is not a computer. He cheated and is now trying to justify it. Not my fault.
