Because Lichess lets them.

Seriously, this is the only site I'm a member of where you can pretty much delete any post you've ever made at any time. Most sites only allow you to do that for a short while after you post.

So, a better question would be - why does Lichess let people delete their posts at any time? It sure messes up discussions.

The real question is, why doesn't Lichess simply remove a comment or post the way the poster intends, rather than making sure everyone knows that something was taken down.
