Why is the average rating for moves in the lichess opening database so much higher than for players?

You know that you can select which games will be used by the lichess db based on the rating plus which variation is (bullet, blitz, rapid,...) right?

Nope, I actually didn't. All rating ranges are on by default though.
Judging by the options, like @glbert said, ~1500 seems to be the lower bound for the 1600 average range.
